Scaling

Scaling is removing the hardened plaque (tartar or calculus) that forms on your teeth and cannot be removed by simply brushing and flossing. It also involves removing the soft, sticky bacteria infested film known as plaque which builds up on your teeth.

Deep Cleaning (periodontal debridement)

When the infection/inflammation spreads deeper into the gums, deep cleaning might be required. Root planing involves smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth. Root planning may take more than one visit to complete and may require a local anaesthetic (numbing).

Gum Surgeries

May be needed if there is an intense inflammation that cannot be resolved with either scaling or deep cleaning. Your dentist will be able to discuss that with you if need be

Cosmetic gum surgeries

There are also cosmetic gum surgeries that might be required to cover the exposed roots or remove of excess gums. Your dentist will be able to discuss that with you if need be.
